The Awesomeness of Gingerbread French Toast

Breakfast, the most important meal of the day! The meal that starts your morning, and is part of our routine of those precious few minutes before we have to greet the world. If you’re like our family, most breakfast routine’s, especially during the week, are based on a quick few bites of cereal or toast, and a drink of milk before we run out the door. Weekend breakfasts, however, are a completely different story!

As a mom of four I like to experiment with different tastes and flavors in the kitchen to make meals that are both good for you, yet a taste that my kids will like. One of their all-time favorites is gingerbread french toast.

Now, I know that before I made this that whenever I would hear the term “gingerbread” I would immediately think of Christmas. Who knew that not only is it good at Christmas, but this french toast recipe is awesome year round? And the benefits of eating ginger? Not only does it taste good, but it promotes healthy digestion as well!


1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
1 tablespoon sugar
1 t salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
4 slices white bread
butter, as needed

Mix all ingredients except butter and bread in a bowl. In medium skillet set flame between medium and high and melt a little butter. Dip one piece of bread in the mixture, transfer to skillet, frying each side of bread until golden brown. Top with syrup of your choice! Your kids will love you for it!
