An Easy Menu for Your New Years Eve Party!

New Year’s Eve is a very festive time and deciding to throw a party can be fun and exciting! This requires some planning and great recipes. Knowing how many guests that will be attending and your budget will help determine what you will serve. Sit down dinners are great but with the crowd in such a festive mood, perhaps buffet style may better suit the occasion.

Drink

Champagne is the traditional drink of the holiday but serving this bubbling wine may be costly. A champagne punch may lighten the cost considerably. A very simple punch is frozen strawberries, ginger ale, and champagne. A non-alcoholic punch with a lemon-lime soda or a sparkling grape juice subbing for champagne should be provided for those who abstain.

Food

A Loaded Potato Bar is an easy way to cover most of your guest’s hunger and tastes. This requires a lot of prep but most can be done ahead. Cooking the potatoes should start about 2 hours ahead of serving by preheating the oven to 400 degrees, cleaning the potatoes, and I like to oil and salt my potatoes skins. About 15 minutes before the potatoes are done, lay out the toppings. They can include:
Butter ( both cow and vegan)
Sour Cream and Plain Yogurt
Bacon
Sauteed Mushrooms in Olive Oil
Shredded and Crumbled Cheeses or a Cheese Sauce
Shredded Beef and Chicken
Chopped Broccoli and Cauliflower
Shredded Carrots
Diced Olives
Peppers
Chili
Salsa
And any other toppings you want to include. A few of these will need to be warmed.

Dessert

Lemon bars, Cheesecake Squares, Chocolate Sheet Cake with Cream Cheese Icing and Sprinkles, a variety of Holiday Cookies, and Candies. Be sure to put the kettle on for tea and coffee.

This menu can serve a few or a crowd. Happy New Year!
